about

EMMY is Emmy Hartman, a 22-year-old artist from Cleveland, Ohio. Many people first encountered Emmy in 2017 when she inadvertently went viral as "the girl who filmed her own emotional breakdown" after receiving a traffic ticket on her way to a concert. Wrote journalist Peyton Thomas: "For all the theorizing about how social media pushes us into panopticism and impels us to smooth out our imperfections, Hartman's live broadcast from rock bottom was met not with scorn, but, like… love."

After years of tantalizing her 3M+ followers on TikTok with a capella covers of Lorde and Billie Eilish, Emmy makes her original music debut with "STUPID BIG TEETH". It's a song, fittingly enough, about putting work into yourself – and sometimes having to shed the people holding you down. Inspired by Björk's Medulla, the recording was composed almost entirely by the human voice, and was co-written with celebrated songwriter Amy Allen (Harry Styles, Halsey, Selena Gomez).

"STUPID BIG TEETH" arrives December 3 worldwide on Godmode, the label and development company behind artists like JPEGMAFIA, Channel Tres, and Yaeji. For all inquiries, contact Nick and Talya at god@godmodemusic.com.

lyrics

When you first met me that girl wasn’t me
She had my same blue eyes and my stupid big teeth
Oh, I know you miss the sad girl I was before
But I don’t know who that is anymore
Me getting better, doesn’t mean you’re getting worse
It’s just not how it works

You know I
I’ve been getting my steps in
You know I
I’ve been in bed with possessions
I’ve been working on me, but it ain’t working on you
w-w-w-workin’, w-workin’ on you
It’s true I
I’ve been on that motivation
Thanks to you, I had a new realization
I’ve been working on me, but it ain’t working on you
w-w-w-workin’, w-workin’ on you

Why do i always gotta make the plans
If i don’t call you, I’m not sure if we’d still be friends
Well you used to make me laugh ‘til I would cry
Now the whole things sad
You can see it in your eyes

Me getting better, doesn’t mean you’re getting worse
No, It’s just not how it works

You know I
I’ve been getting my steps in
You know I
I’ve been in bed with possessions
I’ve been working on me, but it ain’t, working on you
w-w-w-workin’, w-workin’ on you
It’s true I
I’ve been on that motivation
Thanks to you, I had a new realization
I’ve been working on me, but it ain’t working on you

w-w-w-workin’, w-workin’ on you
Me getting better, doesn’t mean you’re getting worse
Pretty please just quit the jealousy, and pull yourself together

You know I
I’ve been getting my steps in
You know I
I’ve been in bed with possessions
I’ve been working on me, but it ain’t, working on you
w-w-w-workin’, w-workin’ on you
It’s true I
I’ve been on that motivation
Thanks to you, I had a new realization
I’ve been working on me, but it ain’t working on you

w-w-w-workin’, w-workin’ on you
